Five Easy Ways to Help Kids Remember Bible Verses
2026-10-16
Hiding God's Word in a child's heart is a gift that lasts a lifetime. The good news is that kids are wonderful at memorizing when it feels like play.
1. Say it every day, the same way
Repetition is the secret. Read the verse at breakfast or bedtime for a week. By Friday, most children know it without trying.
2. Add motions
Pair each phrase with a gesture. Movement helps the words stick, and children love it.
3. Fill in the blanks
Say the verse and leave out a word for your child to fill in. Then leave out two. It turns memorizing into a game.
4. Sing or chant it
Put the verse to a simple tune or clap the rhythm. Songs are some of the easiest things for a child to remember.
5. Connect it to the story
A verse means more when a child knows where it comes from. Read the story first, then the verse. "The Lord is my shepherd" lands differently after you have talked about David and his sheep.
Every day in Lantern Trail includes one key verse, plus a fun fill-in-the-blank game, so memorizing happens naturally as part of the story. Try our free stories to see how it works.
