10 Bible Stories About Kindness for Kids

2026-10-16

Kids learn what kindness looks like by seeing it. The Bible is full of people who showed it, and some who needed it. Here are ten stories to read together, with one idea to talk about after each. The verse that ties them together is Ephesians 4:32: "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you" (ESV).

1. The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37)

A man is hurt on the road, and the one who stops to help is the person no one expected. Ask: "Who is my neighbor?"

2. Ruth and Naomi (Ruth 1-2)

Ruth stays with her grieving mother-in-law and works in the field to feed her. Ask: "How did Ruth show love when it was hard?"

3. David and Mephibosheth (2 Samuel 9)

King David keeps a promise and welcomes a man who could not repay him to eat at the king's table. Ask: "Who could we welcome to our table?"

4. Joseph Forgives His Brothers (Genesis 45; 50:15-21)

Joseph has every reason to be angry, yet he chooses forgiveness and care. Ask: "Why is forgiving hard, and why does it matter?"

5. Rebekah at the Well (Genesis 24)

Rebekah offers water to a stranger and to all ten of his camels, going well beyond what was asked. Ask: "What is one extra thing we could do for someone?"

6. The Widow and Elijah (1 Kings 17:8-16)

A widow with almost nothing shares her last bit of flour and oil, and God provides. Ask: "What can we share, even if we do not have a lot?"

7. A Boy Shares His Lunch (John 6:1-14)

A child offers five loaves and two fish, and Jesus uses it to feed thousands. Ask: "What small thing could God use from us?"

8. Dorcas Sews for Others (Acts 9:36-42)

Dorcas was known for the clothes she made for people in need. Ask: "What are we good at that could help someone?"

9. Barnabas the Encourager (Acts 4:36-37; 9:26-27)

His name means "son of encouragement." Barnabas stood by Paul when others were afraid of him. Ask: "Who needs encouragement this week?"

10. Jesus Welcomes the Children (Mark 10:13-16)

The disciples tried to send the kids away, but Jesus said, "Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God" (ESV). Ask: "How does it feel to know Jesus welcomes you?"
